Booksify is a free audiobook app that gives you access to thousands of classic audiobooks. Whether you're commuting, exercising, or relaxing at home, Booksify lets you enjoy timeless literature narrated by talented volunteers from around the world.

Our mission is to make great literature accessible to everyone through the power of audio storytelling.

Is Booksify free?

Yes! Booksify offers a free tier that gives you access to thousands of audiobooks with no cost. You can listen to complete audiobooks, use the sleep timer, and enjoy basic features at no charge.

We also offer optional premium subscriptions that unlock additional features like offline downloads, ad-free listening, and enhanced playback options. But the core experience is completely free.

What audiobooks are available?

Booksify features a vast library of classic literature and public domain works, including:

  • Classic novels (Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, etc.)
  • Science fiction and fantasy classics
  • Poetry collections
  • Philosophy and non-fiction works
  • Children's literature and fairy tales
  • Historical documents and speeches

New audiobooks are added regularly as volunteer narrators complete new recordings.

Where do the audiobooks come from?

All audiobooks in Booksify are sourced from LibriVox, a volunteer-driven project that creates free public domain audiobooks. LibriVox recordings are read by volunteers from around the world and released into the public domain.

LibriVox was founded in 2005 with a simple goal: to make all books in the public domain available as free audiobooks. We're proud to help make these wonderful recordings more accessible through a modern, user-friendly app experience.

Features

How does the sleep timer work?

The sleep timer automatically stops playback after a set duration, perfect for listening in bed. To use it:

  • While playing an audiobook, tap the sleep timer icon (moon icon)
  • Choose a duration: 5, 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes
  • Or select "End of chapter" to stop at the chapter's end

The audio will gradually fade out when the timer ends, and your progress is automatically saved so you can pick up where you left off.

Can I listen offline?

Yes! Premium subscribers can download audiobooks for offline listening. Here's how:

  • Open the audiobook you want to download
  • Tap the download icon (arrow pointing down)
  • Wait for the download to complete
  • Access downloaded books in your Library under "Downloads"

Downloaded audiobooks are stored on your device, so you can listen even without an internet connection - perfect for flights, commutes, or areas with poor connectivity.

How do I change playback speed?

Booksify lets you adjust playback speed to suit your listening preference:

  • While playing, tap the speed indicator (shows "1x" by default)
  • Choose from speeds: 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, or 2x
  • Your preferred speed is remembered for future sessions

Slower speeds are great for complex texts or language learning, while faster speeds help you get through books more quickly without missing content.

What is the wishlist?

The wishlist lets you save audiobooks you want to listen to later. It's like a personal reading list:

  • Tap the heart icon on any book to add it to your wishlist
  • Access your wishlist from your Library
  • Easily start listening to saved books when you're ready

If you have an account, your wishlist syncs across all your devices so your saved books are always available.

Does it work with AirPlay/CarPlay?

Yes! Booksify fully supports both AirPlay and CarPlay:

AirPlay: Stream your audiobooks to AirPlay-compatible speakers, Apple TV, or HomePod. Just tap the AirPlay icon in the player and select your device.

CarPlay: Connect your iPhone to your car's CarPlay system and control Booksify directly from your dashboard. You can browse your library, play/pause, skip chapters, and adjust playback - all while keeping your eyes on the road.

Booksify also works with Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and car audio systems.
